Fragments of Venus

My fascination with the Venus motif in art began during a visit to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, where I first encountered Botticelli’s painting ‘The Birth of Venus’. Although I had rarely considered this artwork consciously before this encounter, I was already acutely aware of the image after being exposed to its contemporary reproductions and other cultural references. These previous experiences evoked a familiarity with the image which, in turn, created a much larger interest in, and appreciation for, the original work.
